Whats been happening in Soundzania?  A few  interesting requests, that’s what.  We are now working on plans for three more performances to bring our love of music to the little ears around us.  We will be doing another performance for another local preschool, we will be performing at a private birthday party (that one will include some fun games!) and are working on plans for performing at a theatre (again, bringing an interactive component into the show).

 

We’re very excited about these opportunities and certainly welcome more requests for performances like these.  We will try to post some more video clips from these performances to share some of the event if we can.

A little late this month, but it is now officially spring – and the weather is starting to look good!

 

I recently gave a musical presentation to a local preschool.  It was a blast, so many good questions and quotes from the audience!  Like, after guessing the animals in one song, someone yelled out “we have very large brains”.  Of course they do!

While I was showing them the accordian, and letting them hear how it sounded, a girl in front raised her hand and said that it looked like a trumpet…  I said “Really?” eyebrows raised… she replied, “a square trumpet!”  Wow, nice perspective, I love it.

They were definitely enjoying the fun we had.  In all, I played acoustic guitar, stand-up bass, banjo, ukelele and kazoo, and I closed with accordian.  For the last song, I played a song the preschoolers were all familiar with (that they sing in the school regularly anyway) – This Little Light of Mine.  It brought down the house – if you can do that at a preschool!  Everyone was singing along.

So, I will be doing this again I am sure, and if you’re reading this and know of a school that would like a visit, give us a holler.

I captured it on video and have uploaded a clip of the part of the presentation with the ukelele and kazoo.  Give it a watch, its fun.

We are working on getting a performance together.  For the past few years, I have performed at my kid’s preschool (Church of the Good Shepherd in Burke, VA) and it has always been rewarding to see the kids smile and clap with the music.  In the performance I introduce the banjo, ukelele, guitar and stand-up bass.  I play a song with each one of them and talk about the instrument and how much fun it is to play music.  At the end, they all line -up and get a chance to say hello to the instruments up close, strum the strings, hear the sounds.  They love it!

The CDs have arrived a few days early!  I just started opening up the boxes and will start distributing the orders over the next few days.  If you’ve ordered one – it should be coming soon – if you haven’t, you still have till December 12th to get them at the special discount price of $6 !!

Whoa – cool shoes, this one has got to be my favorite.  The first time I heard Lee play it for me – I was hooked.  The call and response backups, the perspective on choosing shoes for different things – when it comes down to it, it doesn’t matter much does it… just pick some shoes you like and run with it.

This one’s a gem to be sure. Lee wrote this one, I tried to sing, and eventually, we got Cecy Snyder (a great singer from our old band Help Wanted) to come in and really show us how to sing.

Ah yes, creepy crawlies. Who wouldn’t find some on Safari ? A nice spooky sound and some critters falling on your head – and mud between your toes (oh no!). I hear Ben Joe loves the bugs.

Howdy. I’m Duke Ulaylee and I get to post the song of the week this week, yeah!

I told Ben Joe I want to be a reporter when I grow-up. He said “I can help you practice. Will you write a story about new music we make here in Soundzania?”

I said “Certainly!” I hope you like my first attempt:

I walked through town the other day. I heard Ace Guitar playing something new. “Ace,” I said “please tell me about the song you’re playing.”

“Well,” Ace said “this is a song about a father and a son. The son really likes cottage cheese because he can eat it with any meal. The father doesn’t like cottage cheese because it it spills and is so difficult to clean.”

Ace will share his new song with his friends. If they like it, they will help him make a recording. If the recording is good, maybe Ben Joe and Mandy Lynn will play it on their radio show.
